ESU1808 v1.4.11 for Mac OS X with firmware v1.0.5

This driver update is required if you are using ESU1808 under Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and also strongly recommended for all older versions of Mac OS X. Please note that using this driver requires you to upgrade the firmware of your ESU1808. This firmware update only has to be done once on every unit. This description is devided into three sections:

1. uninstallation of previous driver
2. installation of new driver
3. firmware update (required)

If you have not installed ESU1808 on your Mac yet, you can skip the first of the three sections. The firmware update is always required once.

1. uninstallation of previous driver

If you have already installed ESU1808, it is required to remove the previous driver. To do that, launch the ESU1808 driver remover from the downloaded disk image file:

A new dialog will appear that looks like this:

Click Uninstall. After a few seconds, the window will appear like this:

Click Exit and then reboot they system (required).

2. installation of new driver

To install the new driver, you need to launch the installer package from the downloaded disk image:

The standard installer dialogs from Mac OS X will appear. Please follow the process on screen. More details about this can also be found in the printed ESU1808 manual.

Once the installation is complete, confirm it with the Restart button in the last dialog. Your system will reboot.

3. firmware update

After the driver has been installed, it is required to update the firmware. Note that this is needed only once, i.e. if you install the ESU1808 driver again later or if you install the hardware on a different Mac, you do not have to update the firmware. To start the process, launch the firmware updater:

The following window will appear:

Please check the version number of the current firmware that is installed. If it is version 1.0.4 like displayed above, you need to click the write firmware button. If it is version number is higher, please click Exit and you're done. The update from 1.0.4 to 1.0.5 will take a few seconds. Once the update is complete, the following window will appear:

The message indicates that the update has been done successfully, both the write firmware and Exit button are grayed out. Proceed to switch of power or unplug the USB cable to ESU1808. Wait a few seconds and the re-plug it and switch it on again. The dialog will change like this:

It now shows that the new firmware has been installed and you can finish the update by clicking Exit. Even though it is not really required, we recommend to reboot your system once again before using ESU1808 in your audio applications.
